Azienda agricola Domenico Bonanno

Located in the province of Trapani, in an area with Controlled Designation of Origin, Azienda Agricola Bonanno has been specializing in the production of organic extra virgin olive oil since 1860. It is extracted using the cold pressing technique from Nocellara del Belice olives, handpicked in accordance with
the ancient agricultural traditions of Sicily. This extraction method preserves the delicate flavors and aromas of the olives, giving rise to an extra virgin olive oil that is a true gastronomic treasure. Over the years, our company’s oil has received important national and international recognitions that endorse
its excellence

Bonanno oil

Azienda Agricola Bonanno Domenico specializes in the production of extra virgin olive oil, exclusively produced from the mono-cultivar “Nocellara del Belice”, cultivated in purity. Our company is the result of a deep passion for our ancient land and its wonderful plants. We cultivate and produce authentic “Nocellara del Belice” olives, one of the 7 cultivars heritage of Sicily.

Our production philosophy is based on organic farming practices, without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and in compliance with European laws and regulations.

Our mission is to safeguard an uncontaminated ecosystem in the heart of the Mediterranean, with its botanical food heritage and a truly unique culture in the world.

The territory

The Bonanno Domenico Farm estate extends for approximately 16 km. The plots benefit from the sea breeze and are located between 3 and 8 km from the sea.

The olive groves are rigorously irrigated using an underground system that runs from plant to plant, exiting at the collar of each plant to allow greater irradiation of the soil beneath the crown.

Some olive groves are interspersed with rows of pomegranate trees, others with several hectares of native Sicilian vineyards: Grillo and Catarratto for the white grapes, Nero d’Avola for the red grapes.

Among the typical Sicilian vegetation are agaves, maritime pines, and prickly pear plants. The property also includes some asparagus crops.

The history that surrounds us

The company is located in Campobello di Mazara, 15 km from Sicily’s largest Greek archaeological site: the Selinunte Archaeological Park, comprising the ancient city, the acropolis, the temple, and the Sanctuary of Melphoros. The acropolis is built on a small promontory overlooking the sea, offering an unparalleled view of the small gulf, where a sandy beach and equipped restrooms make it possible to relax after your visit.

The acropolis also houses a small museum housing the bronze statue of the Ephebe of Selinunte, a rare example of 5th-century BC statuary, discovered in nearby lands last century. The temples, dating from the 6th to 5th centuries BC, are among the most important examples of Greek architecture in Sicily, where traces of the ancient plaster can still be seen on the Doric-style columns.

A few kilometers from Campobello, southwest of the municipality of Castelvetrano, you can also visit the Cusa Quarries, from which the drum-shaped stone blocks, still visible, were extracted for the construction of the columns of the temples of Selinunte (13 km away).

Just 8 km south is the seaside resort of Trefontane, which, with its large sandy seafront, guarantees an excellent summer tourist stay, enriched by many recreational activities.

16 km west of the town, along the coast, lies the largest city of Mazara del Vallo. The ancient center, founded by Arabs, features the typical layout of a North African casbah, interspersed with Norman monuments and Baroque buildings. Worthy of a visit are the Jesuit college and the small but popular Museum of the Dancing Satyr, which houses the bronze found in the sea in 1998, not far from the Tunisian coast. This extremely rare work of art underwent extensive restoration and was recently returned to the city. It is the only surviving example of a Greek bronze sculpture dating back to the 5th century BC depicting the Dionysian dance.

Less than an hour’s drive from Campobello you can also visit:

  • the capital of Marsala (northwest), famous for its wine of the same name, where we recommend visiting the evocative and historic Florio Winery and, not far away, the monument dedicated to Garibaldi and the Expedition of the Thousand and, just outside the city, the famous salt pans.
  • the spectacular site of the temples of Segesta (northwest direction).

The Bonanno Domenico Farm is located in a region steeped in ancient history, as are some of its olive trees. For this reason, the farm organizes daily tours of the estate for visitors upon request, including on-site tastings. For those wishing to visit the art sites, overnight accommodations are also available. We are proud to present our farming activity as the continuation of an ancient tradition that can only be experienced with all five senses…
